Vietnam's Total Import And Export Value Will Exceed US $2.3 Trillion From 2016*2020

During the term of the 12th Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (2016-2020), Vietnam's import and export activities achieved impressive growth, reaching a scale of 2.3 trillion Vietnamese dollars. A net increase of $195 billion in five years.

In 2016, the first year of the 12th Party Congress, Vietnam's total import and export volume reached 350.74 billion US dollars. Among them, exports were 176.63 billion US dollars, up 9% year on year, with a corresponding increase of 14.62 billion US dollars; imports were 174.11 billion US dollars, up 5.2%, with a corresponding increase of 8.54 billion US dollars.

In 2017, the total volume of import and export reached US $425.12 billion, a year-on-year increase of 21%, a net increase of US $73.74 billion over 2016. Among them, exports reached US $214.02 billion, up 21.2% year on year, with a net increase of US $37.44 billion; imports reached US $211.1 billion, up 21%, with a net increase of US $36.3 billion.

In 2018, the total import and export volume reached US $480.17 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.2%, a net increase of US $52.05 billion over 2017. Among them, exports reached 243.48 billion US dollars, up 13.2% year on year; imports reached 236.69 billion US dollars, up 11.1%.

In 2019, the total import and export volume will break through the $500 billion mark for the first time, reaching $517.26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%, and a net increase of $36.69 billion over 2018. Among them, exports reached US $264.19 billion, up 8.4% year on year, and imports reached US $253.07 billion, up 6.8%.

Novel coronavirus pneumonia was the last year of the twelve term of the Party Congress in 2020. Despite the challenges and challenges of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Vietnam achieved good results in import and export. The total import and export volume of the whole year reached 545.36 billion US dollars, up 5.4% year on year. Among them, exports reached 282.65 billion US dollars, an increase of 7%, a net increase of 18.39 billion US dollars over 2019; imports reached 262.7 billion US dollars, an increase of 3.7%, a net increase of 9.31 billion US dollars over 2019.

So far, during the term of the 12th Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam's total import and export volume reached 2318 billion US dollars. In 2020, compared with 2016, the scale of import and export will increase by 55.5%, equivalent to a net increase of US $195 billion.
