The Port Of Sinesh Reports A 13% Increase In Container Throughput In 2020

- Jan 24, 2021-

Despite the impact of the covid-19 pandemic, this is the third best result in container handling in history.

Related to the mainland, the number of containers representing more than 442000 TEUs shows the increasing importance of containers in the company's import and export flow.

Compared with 2019, the liquid bulk cargo increased slightly by 1% to 21.5 million tons. Liquefied bulk includes more than 8.3 million tons of crude oil supplied to the SINEs refinery, 7.3 million tons of refined products (gasoline, diesel and related products, most of which are for export) and more than 4 million tons of liquefied natural gas, accounting for more than 90% of the country's natural gas demand.

As part of the decarbonization plan, the dry bulk sector fell by 80% as a result of the announcement of the closure of coal-fired power plants, which has affected the transport of the port of sinesh in recent years to 2.5 million tons in 2020.

Among the three cargo depots, the total cargo volume of all ports in the whole year was 42.2 million tons, an increase of 1% over the previous year.

PSA sines, the franchisee of terminal 21 of SINEs port, announced in December last year that it would start the first phase of the expansion of the container terminal in January 2021, known as the "third phase". The project enhances the competitiveness of the port in the port environment of southern Europe.

The PSA SINEs expansion plan (signed by the franchisee and the SINEs port authority in October last year) provides for the joint construction of an 804m wharf, 18 hectares of embankments and buildings in the so-called "phase III" and "phase IV".

For the port group, which manages terminal 21, the project is "another step to strengthen SINEs as one of the major ports in southern Europe.".
