According to the monthly economic review of the Central Bank of Tanzania in October, as of September this year, Tanzania’s imports of goods and services amounted to US$9.4985 billion, a decrease from US$10.768 billion in the same period last year, mainly due to the decline in global oil prices.
Petroleum imports accounted for 18.4% of merchandise imports, at US$1.452 billion, down from US$1.768 billion in the same period last year.
As of September this year, Tanzania’s exports of goods and services amounted to 9.467.9 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease from 9.515 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year, mainly due to the decline in revenue from the service industry, especially the tourism industry, due to the epidemic.
Service industry revenue was US$3.247 billion, a decrease of 34.2% compared to US$4.931 billion in the same period last year, of which tourism revenue was US$1.727 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 39.1%.
