New 5G Network Facilitates The Digitization Of The Port Of Antwerp

Antwerp customs (Antwerp customs) announced that the technology company iSea and Ericsson (Ericsson) is testing and developing a dedicated 5G network called Minerva.


   This private network will allow the city of Antwerp, the port of Antwerp, the police and the fire department to further develop their existing digital applications and explore new applications.


   According to a statement, the dedicated 5G network has improved the speed, reliability, and security of digital applications by the Port Authority, police and fire brigade.


Annick De Ridder of Alderman Port believes that the 5G trial network using Ericsson technology covers the entire port.    The network does not rely on public service providers, so it can better prevent potential failures and overload during large-scale events or large-scale gatherings.


   Antwerp Mayor Bart De Wever commented: “It is essential for Antwerp to have mobile networks. They play an important forward-looking platform role in the digitalization of the port's multidisciplinary ecosystem and urban emergency services.”


   According to the introduction of iSea CEO Annick De Ridder and Valentijn Vande Keere, Minerva will create new jobs and, based on end-to-end European technology, will ensure the best coverage in the partner's operating area.


   In recent years, the fire brigade, police and ports have developed a series of digital applications such as apps, live broadcasts, drones and other technologies.


   According to partners, this development can be strengthened and accelerated thanks to faster, safer, and more reliable networks.
