Egypt officially opened its airspace to Qatar's civil aviation flights from the same day, marking the end of Egypt's more than three-year flight ban against Qatar, Egypt's Middle East News Agency reported on the 12th.
The report quoted Ashraf Nowell, head of Egypt's Civil Aviation Administration, as saying that after the opening of airspace, Egyptian airlines and Qatar Airways will resume flight exchanges between the two countries. The Egyptian civil aviation authority has also approved the application for Qatar civil aviation flights to cross Egyptian airspace.
Egyptian Airlines chief executive Rushdi Zakaria said in a statement on the same day that Egyptian Airlines decided to open daily flights to and from Doha, the capital of Qatar. If demand increases, there will be more flights.
In June 2017, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, citing Qatar's "support for terrorism" and "destruction of regional security", announced that they had severed diplomatic relations with Qatar and imposed sanctions and blockades on it.
The 41st summit meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States was held in the western Saudi city of Euler on May 5. The leaders of the meeting signed the "Euler declaration", marking the resumption of comprehensive diplomatic relations between Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and Qatar.
